Tomorrow: Shaggy’s Summer in Kingston album launch & Sugarcane video premiere in Jamaica!
The great new album Summer in Kingston and the video for the awesome new Sugarcane will be launched with a free concert on July 16 at Knutsford Boulevard in Shaggy’s home country Jamaica!

Shaggy, Chino, Agent Sasco, Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, Stone Love, Renaissance, the Tantrum Band, Ity and Fancy Cat and more will perform at this free concert, which starts at 7 PM. New Kingston will be on lockdown for this event and MTV and Rolling Stone will be there to cover the massive party! If you’re in Jamaica, don’t miss it!!

In an unprecedented promotion, Shaggy will premiere the Sugarcane video to thousands of fans that line up in Knutsford Square in Kingston, Jamaica at 7:00pm EST. Four huge screens will show the clip for maximum viewing in the square, and fans will be treated to performances from Shaggy, joined by Agent Sasco, Chino, Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor and more, to celebrate the launch in true Kingston style.

Shaggy and Hezron Two Places at One Time single coverShaggy and Hezron shot a video for their collaboration Two Places, which has been getting a lot of airplay. It will be released today on TVJ! Producer of the song and same-titled riddim, Danny Champagne, says: “Both complement each other on the song. The contrast between Hezron; a reggae singer, and Shaggy, who is a great DJ makes the track that much better and the lyrics is something that people live everyday so they will identify with it.”

It was Danny Champagne who was instrumental in bringing Hezron and Shaggy together to record the song. He says he’s confident that the song is a hit and the video will only make it better: “I think the video took a while but it’s a good video. It tells the story that was designed for it and the final product is of a good quality”. Champagne also reveals he is happy with the response the song has been getting based on radio play. “We are happy with the song and it has been playing well on the radio continuously and that pushed us to do the video. I showed some people the video and they loved it and as far as I am concerned the song is already a hit and the video will only make it better”.

Singer Hezron comments about the video: “It was a good storyline and I like the way it was shot. The song has been doing really well and I believe the video can only help it to go further.” Source: Caribbean Festivals. The video for Two Places will premier on TVJ’s Intense today!

Shaggy to be honored with 2011 International Humanitarian Award
Shaggy will be honored with the 2011 International Humanitarian Award by the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) at their 7th Annual Peacock Soiree today! The event takes place at Jungle Island in Miami, Florida and it is hosted by Jamaican Ambassador Sue Cobb, the president and the board of directors of the AFJ. Entertainment will be provided by the Jolly Boys. Proceeds of the gala are to benefit Jamaican charities in education, health care and economic development.

The event will take place amidst the tropical elegance of Miami’s Jungle Island with cocktails, dinner and dancing well into the night. The Peacock Soiree promises to be spectacular, chic and fun attracting dignitaries, sport stars and business professionals.

Shaggy has always lived on the premise that “to whom much is given, much is required”. What began as donations of medical equipment and visits to the Bustamente Hospital For Children to distribute gifts during the holidays, paint rooms, donate beds and creation of a garden, developed into the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation. He recruited business associates, fellow recording artists and sponsors to assist in hosting an annual Shaggy & Friends charity event in which all proceeds are donated to the pediatric hospital to help defray the cost of medical equipment.

Shaggy also sought other avenues to raise funds; he co-wrote “Shaggy Parrot“, an educational book and cd for children. He sang the voice of the main character and donated his proceeds to charity. Shaggy recorded Save a Life for the Bustamente Hospital for Children and Rise Again for the Digicel Haiti Relief Fund for earthquake victims. Shaggy has remained humble, taking his career in strides. He continues to break down barriers for those who dare to follow in his footsteps.

Jamaican ambassador Sue Cobb, AFJ’s Chairperson comments, “Shaggy is the essence of the charitable spirit we celebrate in our continued support of the Jamaican society and its people. The Peacock Soiree is a celebration of this spirit for all to enjoy while raising funds for good causes”.

Shaggy to be inducted into the Reggae Walk of Fame
Congratulations to Shaggy! Shaggy will be inducted into the Reggae Walk of Fame for his achievements and contributions to the growth of the reggae music industry both in Jamaica and abroad!

Shaggy will receive his induction in the Reggae Walk of Fame when he returns to Trelawny to perform at the official grand opening celebration of the new cruise ship port in Falmouth, Jamaica on March 22. The largest cruise ship of the world, The Oasis of the Seas, will call into Falmouth that day. Other inductees in the Reggae Walk of Fame include Yellowman, Culture, Toots Hibbert, Tony Rebel, Barrington Levy, Third World, Ziggy Marley, Bunny Wailer, The I-Threes and Ky-Mani Marley.

One Love Peace Festival History
The One Love Peace Festival has been inspired by the 1978 One Love Peace Concert in Kingston, Jamaica, which was held to bring about peace between the warring factions in Jamaica and Kingston’s inner city areas. Bob Marley & the Wailers, Peter Tosh, Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond and Big Youth were among the performers. As for footage of this historical concert: here’s a video in which Bob Marley sang Jammin’ and had rivaling political leaders Michael Manley and Edward Seaga shake hands after bringing them on stage.

Shaggy wins two EME Awards

Last night the Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards 2011 ceremony was held at Devon House in Kingston, Jamaica. Shaggy and Alaine won the award for Dancehall Video of the Year for their hot collaboration For Your Eyes Only. The Artist of the Decade (2001-2010) award was awarded to both Shaggy and Beenie Man for the big impact they have had as hit makers, performers and touring acts. Congratulations to all!

NBC Today hosts Kathy Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb will co-host a special edition of TVJ’s Smile Jamaica today between 6 and 8.30 A.M. on TVJ. You can watch the special show live on TVJ or online in this live stream! Segments of the show will be broadcast on the Today Show on NBC in May and the entire show will be posted on the Today show’s website. The Smile Jamaica / NBC Today Show will highlight some of the dynamic talents in Jamaica, such as Tarrus Riley, Dean Fraser and Shaggy!

Shaggy nominated for two Youth View Awards
Shaggy has been nominated for Celebrity Role Model (category 19) at the Youth View Awards 2011 for his extensive charity work for the Bustamente Hospital for Children and the Shaggy & Friends charity concerts! The 2010 charity concert raised JMD $31 million for the children hospital! Aside from organizing two huge charity concerts for the hospital, he has contributing equipment, time and money to the children’s hospital and other charities and causes for many years.

Besides his nomination for Celebrity Role Model, Shaggy is also nominated alongside Sean Paul and Mavado for Favourite local international artiste of the year (category 12).
